The excavator 1473 with the type designation SRs 1500 is a bucket wheel excavator that was manufactured by VEB Schwermaschinenbau Lauchhammerwerk in 1964/1965 and was in use until 2002.

Because of its blue color, the bucket wheel excavator is also commonly known as the “blue wonder”.

history

In 1964/1965 the bucket wheel excavator was built in the Meuro opencast mine and then used there for the removal of the overburden until the coal production was stopped in 1999 . The bucket wheel excavator was only used temporarily in the neighboring Welzow-Süd opencast mine from 1986 to 1987 .

Between 1999 and 2002 it was used for recultivation in the former Meuro opencast mine and was then to be scrapped. The cities of Senftenberg and Großräschen as well as the municipality of Schipkau wanted to keep the excavator and successfully advocated a takeover. In 2003 the excavator was moved to the southwestern edge of the former opencast mine near Hörlitz .

At the beginning of 2019 it became known that the bucket wheel excavator was to be scrapped. Decisive for this decision of the municipalities was the increasing decay and vandalism. Only parts of the excavator, such as the bucket wheel, should be retained. [obsolete] After numerous citizens, including former mining workers, expressed their displeasure with the plans (e.g. by means of letters to the editor), the Brandenburg State Office for Monument Preservation became aware of the planned scrapping and put the excavator on the official list of monuments . The municipalities thereupon announced an application to lift the monument protection.

Technical specifications

The bucket wheel excavator had an output of 5555 kW in operation and was supplied with a 6 kV power cable.

Overall, the bucket wheel excavator is around 50 meters high and around 171.5 meters long. The six-part crawler undercarriage with a maximum travel speed of 6 meters per minute carries the total weight of 3850 tons.

With 10 shovels of 1.5 cubic meters each and 57 dumps per minute (so-called dumping number ), the excavator achieves a theoretical extraction rate of 5130 cubic meters per hour. The paddle wheel diameter is 12.5 meters and the cutting speed is 3.73 meters per second.

The construction of the wheel arm with a length of 67 meters enables a removal height of up to 35 meters and a removal depth of up to 15 meters.
