Oystercatcher (ship type)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An oystercatcher was a sailing vessel for oyster fishing in the Wadden Sea . It was approx. 12 m long, 3 m wide, had a draft of approx. 0.75 m and was built very shallow. The single- masted ship had gieksail , gaff top sails and a stay jib and jib . Some oystercatchers were also side swords equipped. The oyster trawls for the catch were towed on the starboard side .

With the introduction of ship engines, the end of the sailed oystercatcher gradually came.
