Previous model Austin-Healey 100

The Austin-Healey 3000 is a roadster built by BMC from 1959 to 1967 . During its production time, the 3000 won many European rallies and is still often used in classic car rallies today.

With the increase in displacement to three liters (124 hp) in 1959, the model name changed from Austin-Healey 100-Six to 3000 MK I (two-seater: BN7, 2 + 2-seater: BT7).

1961 followed the 3000 Mk II with three carburetors and 132 HP. This version received a new hood in 1963, which no longer found space completely behind the emergency seats in the body, but protruded beyond (BJ7). In addition, there were crank windows instead of plug-in windows, which is why the door cutout was made smaller with an attached chrome strip. With the 150 hp Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III (BJ8) introduced in 1964, the instrument panel, which has been made of wood since then, was revised after 13 years. A lockable glove compartment and a radio speaker integrated in the center console completed the transformation to a comfort convertible. The Austin-Healey had disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear wheels. The bodyshells were produced at Jensen Motors .

BMC discontinued production of the 3000 during 1967 in favor of the Triumph TR5 . The reason for this was, among other things, the stricter US emissions standards. In eight years of production, 42,926 units were built in three model generations. Jensen initially considered replacing the Austin-Healey 3000 with a self-developed coupé. The Jensen P66 designed for this purpose , however, did not go into series production. Jensen-Healey took over the role of 3000 from 1972 .

Replicas

To date, there are only a few replicas of the Austin Healey 3000 in the world. One of the most famous is the Jinlei Golden Thunder 5000 from the Golden Thunder Classic Motors Company . There is also a replica of Woodley Healey .

The Sebring MX and Cavaliere 3000 were already available from the United States in the late 1960s . At that time there was only the British Saxon Healey from Europe . It was not until the 1990s that new replicas came onto the European market with the Pilgrim 3000 and the HMC Mk. IV SE . The Swedish Borås 3000 is also well known . It is the only left-hand drive replica of the model so far.
