The Triumph TR5 was a roadster produced from July 1967 to September 1968 by the British car manufacturer Triumph from Coventry . He built 2947 vehicles in 15 months.

Emergence

With the body designed by Turin designer Giovanni Michelotti , the TR5 was very similar to its predecessor, the TR4 or TR4A . Outwardly, it only differed in S-shaped curved tailpipes (double pipe), wider side trim strips, a slightly modified radiator grille and other emblems. The biggest difference was under the bonnet: The TR5 PI (Petrol Injection) had a 2.5 liter in-line six-cylinder engine with mechanical manifold injection from Lucas Industries that developed 143 hp (105 kW). With it, the car accelerated from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.1 s and reached a top speed of 189 km / h. This engine was also used in the successor, the TR6 .

Base price in 1968 in the UK for the soft top model was £ 1,260 for the soft top  and £ 1,255 for the hard top  . An overdrive was available for £ 60 . A so-called "small tarpaulin " (cover) for the folded roof could be ordered for £ 13.

The TR250

Because of the intake manifold injection, the TR5 no longer complied with American emission regulations. The TR5 was therefore modified to the TR250 for the US market. The engine was fitted with two Stromberg carburetors. This gave it an output of 77 kW and accelerated the car from 0 to 100 km / h in 10.6 seconds. The top speed was 172 km / h. The TR250 sold significantly better than the TR5. 8484 copies of him were sold.
