The Triumph 1500 was a car of the lower middle class , the Standard Triumph made from January 1970 to March 1976.

1500

The Triumph 1500 received the front-wheel drive chassis of the Triumph 1300 and its body, but this got a different vehicle front with double headlights and an extended vehicle rear with horizontal taillights and a larger trunk. The interior was also revised and received a redesigned dashboard and door panels, but their upper parts remained in real wood. The four-cylinder in-line engine was bored out to 1,493 cc and, fitted with a single SU carburetor, had 61 bhp (45 kW). All four wheels were suspended from coil springs, the front wheels individually.

In 1972 the output increased to 65 bhp (48 kW) with the help of a larger carburetor and a modified intake system. These later vehicles can be recognized by a silver-colored badge on the front of the vehicle, while the earlier models have a black one.

The car reached a top speed of 140 km / h and accelerated from 0-100 km / h in 16.5 s.

From the beginning of 1970 to autumn 1973, 66,353 Triumph 1500 units were built.

1500 TC

In October 1973 the Triumph 1500 was replaced by the 1500 TC. This had the same 1.5 liter R4 engine, but with SU twin carburetors, and was built on the rear-wheel drive chassis of the recently introduced Dolomite . The interior and exterior furnishings have largely remained the same compared to the predecessor.

The 1500 TC can be recognized by the corresponding inscription on the trunk lid and the hubcaps with a black center, while they were blue on the 1500.

The cars reached a top speed of 148 km / h and accelerated from 0-100 km / h in 14.8 s. A sunroof was available on request.

In March 1976 the Dolomite 1500/1500 HL replaced the 1500 TC after 25,549 units.
