history
The Triumph TR6 was introduced in 1968. The chassis was still essentially based on that of the TR4 . The design of the TR6 was developed by the Osnabrück- based coachbuilder Karmann after the previous TR models had been designed by the Italian Giovanni Michelotti , who was no longer available. The lines of the body of the TR6 became smoother than that of the TR5 . Up to its replacement by the TR7 in July 1976, a total of 96,619 copies were made.
The European version of the TR6 (named PI = Petrol Injection) has a 6-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 2.5 liters and with mechanical intake manifold injection from Lucas Industries . This makes 143 hp, which are transmitted via a 4-speed manual transmission. Because of the exhaust gas regulations in the USA, the models sold there have an engine with a double carburetor that produces between 98 and 106 hp. From 1973, the vehicles delivered in Europe also received a weaker engine with an output reduced to 123 hp. The TR6 has disc brakes on the front axle and drum brakes on the rear axle.
With the optional hardtop, the TR6 could be converted into a Grand Touring Coupé (GT).
