Australian Center for Contemporary Art
The Australian Center for Contemporary Art (ACCA) (German: Australian Center of contemporary art ) is an art gallery that is in the Sturt Street in downtown South Bank of Melbourne in Victoria , Australia , is located.
The ACCA is a building made of rusting COR-TEN steel designed by Melbourne architect Wood Marsh. It was opened to the public in 2002. The building houses four gallery rooms of different sizes, which are connected to a large foyer.
The building won an Australian architecture award for its monolithic sculptural form. Connected to this modern building is the Malthouse Theater , where today's performance art is performed.
The entire complex is called Ngargee , which is the name of an Aboriginal tribe of the Bunurong . In the Aboriginal language, the term also means holding a historical celebration with dancing and singing.
Next to the building is the yellow sculpture Vault by Ron Robertson-Swann , called Yellow Peril in Melbourne .
