The Austro-Daimler Sascha (also called Austro Daimler ADS R , Sascha or Sascha Porsche ) is a sports car that Ferdinand Porsche designed in 1922. Porsche chose the name Sascha after Alexander "Sascha" Kolowrat-Krakowsky , who ordered the car.

description

At that time Porsche was working for Austro-Daimler . He designed a small, light (598 kg) wagon with an uncranked ladder frame and rigid axles on semi-elliptical leaf springs , on the rear axle as cantilever springs . The engine has four cylinders with 68.3 mm bore and 75.0 mm stroke, this results in 1089 cm³ displacement, and two king-shaft driven , overhead camshafts, which actuate two diagonally opposite valves per cylinder. It develops 50 PS (37 kW), according to other sources 33 kW (45 PS) at 4500 rpm. The engine's wide, smooth crankcase is screwed directly onto the ladder frame. The braking system with braked front wheels is progressive for its time. All four drum brakes are operated mechanically via cables.

The car reaches a top speed of 144 km / h. Bumpers and headlights could be removed for car racing. Preserved vehicles have staggered bucket-shaped seats for the driver and mechanic and no additional body at the rear. Photos of the time show the rear suspension, brakes and differential exposed, but some also show a variant with a boat stern.

At the Targa Florio of 1922 three Sasha participated. In the 1100 cc class they took first and second place with an average speed of 54 km / h over 432 km on bad roads with gradients of up to 12.5%. In the overall classification this resulted in 19th place. The winner of the 1922 Targa Florio, Giulio Masetti , reached 63 km / h with a much larger engine.
