The Wilmersdorf motorway junction connected the Berlin city ring (A 100) with the then A 104 . When the A 104 was downgraded to a branch of the A 100 in 2006, it was renamed the Schmargendorf junction .

The cross lies exactly on the border between the Berlin districts Schmargendorf and Wilmersdorf and belonged to the district of Wilmersdorf , since 2001 district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf . The two motorways crossed at an acute angle; in contrast to most motorway junctions , there was only a connection to the other motorway in the same direction.

The former A 104 ran from the Konstanzer Straße junction north of the Wilmersdorf junction to the Schildhornstraße junction to the south . An extension to the A 103 to Berlin-Steglitz was planned, but was given up again. In the course of the restructuring during the introduction of the truck toll in 2005, it was rededicated to an extended junction of the A 100. Structurally, everything remained unchanged.

In 2015, the following "Average daily traffic volumes" (both directions together) were determined on the A 100 in this area:

from to vehicles
AS Hohenzollerndamm AS Schmargendorf 131,800
AS Schmargendorf AS Detmolder Strasse 127,000
