The machine specialist is a state-recognized training occupation in Germany according to the Vocational Training Act .

education

The vocational training for machine expert for three years as a rule and takes place both in the training company and the vocational school . In the further course of the training, the knowledge acquired is condensed and supplemented by other specific topics.

Remuneration during training

The amount of the training allowance is usually based on collective bargaining agreements and can vary in the individual federal states.

  • 1st year of training: between € 430 and € 575
  • 2nd year of training: between € 480 and € 647
  • 3rd year of training: between € 550 and € 725

Work areas

Machine specialists work in companies in the machine industry in particular in the following areas: vending machines, drinks and food, cash and bank, ticket, telephone, time recording and entertainment machines. You can also be employed by vending machine operators such as transport companies, parking garages, restaurants, banks, arcade operators and leisure facilities.

Structure of the profession

Elective qualifications for the apprenticeship machine specialist

The first two years of training for the machine specialist are identical to the two years of training for the two-year training course for machine service technicians , which was created in the same train. In the third year of training, the training company can use optional qualification units to tailor the training to the company's needs. A total of six elective qualification units are available. By cleverly combining the optional qualification units, the company can achieve a more commercial or a more technical training profile.

Testing regulation

The vending machine specialist has been stipulated in the training regulations for vocational training in the vending machine industry together with the two-year training course for vending machine service. Since the two apprenticeships addressed new sectors, the training regulations are initially limited to July 31, 2013. During this time, the needs and the nature of the apprenticeship are checked and adjusted if necessary. The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training has launched a development project for this purpose. The professional competence in this occupation is proven by an extended final examination . It consists of a total of five examination areas:

  5. Examination area economics and social studies

Part 1 of the final exam should take place at the end of the second year of training. With the exception of economics and social studies, the examination areas are identical to the examination areas of the two-year apprenticeship as a machine service specialist. Part 1 of the final examination is weighted with 40% of the overall result, part 2 with 60%.

Examination area machine support

In this examination area, the trainee should prove that he

a) plan, carry out, control and document the vending machine service in a customer-oriented manner,
b) check and ensure the functionality of machines,
c) use technical means of communication and
d) can take into account health and safety at work, environmental protection and legal framework conditions.

To prove these competencies, two of the following activities must be selected:

  • Installation and connection of ready-to-use machines,
  • Reading, filling and emptying,
  • Maintenance and cleaning of machines, including replacement of wear parts,
  • Troubleshooting and elimination of faults;

It is important that the company training focus should be taken as a basis. The trainee carries out two work samples for which he has a total of 90 minutes.

Examination area machine management

In this examination area, the trainee should prove that he

a) Perform machine accounting and cash register closings,
b) Evaluate the use of machines under economic criteria and develop suggestions for optimization,
c) Implement measures for customer loyalty and customer acquisition and
d) can determine the demand for goods and spare parts.

In this examination area, the trainee works on written tasks in 90 minutes on the basis of practice-related cases.

Customer communication examination area

In this examination area, the trainee should prove that he

a) present the appropriate information and advice to customers,
b) Show possibilities of conflict resolution, as well as
c) can handle complaints and complaints.

Taking into account the elective qualifications, the trainee creates up to two examination products in up to five hours. These come from the areas:

  • Install and repair vending machines or
  • Processing of commercial business transactions;

The examination products are documented with industry-standard documents. Furthermore, he creates a written work plan.

Examination area economics and social studies

In this examination area, the trainee should demonstrate in 60 minutes that he is able to present and assess general economic and social relationships in the professional and working world.

Weighting of the examination areas

The examination areas are weighted as follows:

Machine support 20 percent
Vending machine management 10 percent
Customer communication 10 percent
Vending machine economy 50 percent
Economics and Social Studies 10 percent

Passage regulation

The trainee has passed his final exam if the performance

  1. in the overall result of parts 1 and 2 of the final examination with at least "sufficient",
  2. in the result of part 2 of the final examination with at least "sufficient"
  3. in the examination area of ​​machine management of part 2 of the final examination with at least "sufficient" and
  4. in no examination area of ​​part 2 of the final examination with "unsatisfactory"

An oral supplementary examination of around 15 minutes in duration is possible in the examination area of ​​economics and social studies, provided that the final examination can be passed. The prerequisite is that these examination areas were rated worse than "sufficient". A supplementary oral examination to improve the grade is not possible.

Awards

In 2011, the first machine specialist passed his final exam with the grade “very good”. He was honored on December 12, 2011 at the 6th  national best honor of the DIHK by the Federal Minister for Economics and Technology Philipp Rösler .
