The specialist for machine service is a state-recognized training occupation according to the Vocational Training Act .

Duration of training

The training period to become a specialist in vending machine service is usually two years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school .

Work areas

Vending machine service specialists work in companies in the vending machine industry in particular in the following areas: vending machines, drinks and food, cash and bank, ticket, telephone, time recording and entertainment machines. You can also be employed by vending machine operators such as transport companies, parking garages, restaurants, banks, arcade operators and leisure facilities.

Structure of the profession

The two years of training of the expert Machine service are identical with the first two years of training, the three-year training occupation machine skilled in the art that has arisen in the same train.

Testing regulation

The specialist for vending machine service has been stipulated together with the three-year apprenticeship as a vending machine specialist in the training regulations on vocational training in the vending machine industry. Since the two apprenticeships addressed new sectors, the training regulations are initially limited to July 31, 2013. During this time, the needs and the nature of the training occupation are checked and adjusted if necessary. The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BiBB) has launched a development project for this purpose. The aim is to “collect and evaluate information about the tried and tested structure and the tested content of the [...] regulation. In this way, knowledge is gained for a decision on whether the testing regulation should be converted into permanent law and which modifications are to be made in this case. "

Intermediate and final exams

The professional competence in this profession is determined by a conventional intermediate and final examination .

The intermediate examination should take place at the beginning of the second year of training. In the service work examination area, the trainee should demonstrate that he can solve tasks in the areas of reading, cleaning, emptying, filling and maintaining machines. For this purpose, the trainee works on written tasks that represent practical cases. He has 90 minutes for this.

final exam

The final examination consists of a total of four examination areas:

  1. Examination area machine support
  2. Examination area machine management
  3. Customer communication examination area
  4. Examination area economics and social studies

Examination area machine support

In this examination area, the trainee should prove that he

a) plan, carry out, control and document the vending machine service in a customer-oriented manner,
b) check and ensure the functionality of machines,
c) use technical means of communication and
d) can take into account health and safety at work, environmental protection and legal framework conditions.

To prove these competencies, two of the following activities must be selected:

  • Installation and connection of ready-to-use machines,
  • Reading, filling and emptying,
  • Maintenance and cleaning of machines, including replacement of wear parts,
  • Troubleshooting and elimination of faults;

It is important that the company’s training focus should be taken as a basis. The trainee carries out two work samples for which he has a total of 90 minutes.

Examination area machine management

In this examination area, the trainee should prove that he

a) Perform machine accounting and cash register closings,
b) Evaluate the use of machines under economic criteria and develop suggestions for optimization,
c) Implement measures for customer loyalty and customer acquisition and
d) can determine the demand for goods and spare parts.

In this examination area, the trainee works on written tasks in 90 minutes on the basis of practice-related cases.

Customer communication examination area

In this examination area, the trainee should prove that he

a) present the appropriate information and advice to customers,
b) Show possibilities of conflict resolution, as well as
c) can handle complaints and complaints.

Examination area economics and social studies

In this examination area, the trainee should demonstrate in 60 minutes that he is able to present and assess general economic and social relationships in the professional and working world.

Weighting of the examination areas

The examination areas are weighted as follows:

Machine support 50 percent
Vending machine management 20 percent
Customer communication 20 percent
Economics and Social Studies 10 percent

Passage regulation

The trainee has passed his final exam if the performance

  1. in the overall result with at least sufficient,
  2. in the examination area of ​​machine management with at least sufficient,
  3. in at least two of the other examination areas with at least sufficient and
  4. unsatisfactory in any examination area

have been assessed.

An oral supplementary examination of around 15 minutes is possible in the examination areas of machine management, customer communication or economics and social studies, if the final examination can be passed. The prerequisite is that these examination areas were rated worse than sufficient. A supplementary oral examination to improve the grade is not possible.

Awards

In the summer of 2010, the first trainees to become specialists in vending machine service successfully completed their final exams . The best apprentice was honored on December 13, 2010 at the 5th national best  honor of the DIHK by the Federal Minister of Labor, Ms. von der Leyen . He had completed his training with the final grade “very good”. In 2011 another trainee achieved the grade “very good”. She was honored by the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, Philipp Rösler .
