The National Best Honor is an annual event of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry , at which the best nationwide graduates of dual training in industry, trade and services are awarded cups and certificates. A total of around 1,000 guests take part - in addition to the award winners, parents and relatives, representatives from training companies and vocational schools , members of the Bundestag as well as presidents and chief executives of the chambers of industry and commerce .

Origin and background

The event took place for the first time on December 11, 2006 in Hangar 2 of the former Tempelhof Airport in Berlin . The laudation was given by Chancellor Angela Merkel , who emphasized the importance of dual training with the words: "Training is a trademark of the Federal Republic of Germany". With the event, the DIHK wants to underline the importance of dual training and the outstanding performance of trainees and training companies.

Selection process

Every year more than 300,000 trainees take their final exams at a chamber of industry and commerce . From these graduates, the best nationwide is determined for each IHK training occupation. The overall grade achieved in the final examination is decisive. Around 200 to 230 participants are selected each year. Trainees regularly achieve the maximum number of 100 points.

From 2007 to 2009 the event took place in the Berlin Palais at the radio tower on the exhibition grounds in Berlin . In 2010 she moved to the more centrally located Maritim Hotel Berlin. Since 2011, the award ceremony has also been broadcast as a live stream and is available on the DIHK website. The German TV presenter and actress Barbara Schöneberger has been moderating the film since 2006 . In 2016, Ruth Moschner took over the moderation as an exception .
