Automatic fitter

Automatic fitter EFZ has been the official job title in Switzerland since 2008, which has been created from the electrical engineering profession of electrical practitioner.

The responsibility for this basic vocational training lies with the Swissmechanic . Since 2008, the designation of the degree has been “Automatic fitter with federal certificate of proficiency (EFZ)”.

Work area

Automatic fitters have mastered the necessary assembly, connection and wiring techniques to set up electrical controls and energy distributors. They use modern testing and measuring equipment for functional checks and the localization of machine malfunctions.

Requirements for learning the profession

Young people who are interested in the world of electronics are combined with manual skills, understanding electrical devices, math skills and a good perception are suitable for an automatic assembly apprenticeship. Good performance in mathematics and physics is required. Of course, this apprenticeship is also suitable for women.

The course lasts 3 years.

The school requirements are basic or intermediate level of lower secondary level, which means that the profession has a lower threshold than the automation technician.

In-company training

Basic training

1st and 2nd year of apprenticeship: Manual processing of metal and non-metal semi-finished products on stands or hand drills. Use of hand tools, machines and equipment. Getting to know the essential measuring methods for direct and alternating voltage. Acquisition of basic knowledge in the assembly, wiring and testing of simple controls, electronic devices and power distribution.

Focus training

1st to 3rd year of apprenticeship: In parallel to the basic training, basic skills and knowledge in the operational area of ​​the company are deepened and consolidated. The choice of areas of application (practical skills) depends on the possibilities of the teaching company and the inclinations and skills of the learner. The automatic fitters build up at least one competence.

Vocational school

The apprentices attend vocational school one day a week. Be taught:

Inter-company courses

During the first two years of the apprenticeship, the learners attend inter-company courses in which they are taught the basic skills. Most of these are carried out in a Swissmechanic course center.
