The Autostrade per l'Italia SpA is the largest operator of toll roads in Italy . It is 100 percent owned by the parent company Atlantia .
history
The company's roots go back to 1950, when Società Autostrade Concessioni e Costruzioni SpA was founded to rebuild the road network in the post-war period. In 1987 the company went public and in 1999 it was privatized. On July 1, the activities were outsourced to the newly founded subsidiary Autostrade per l'Italia SpA . The parent company Autostrade SpA was renamed Atlantia in 2007 .
Bridge collapse in 2018
On August 14, 2018 at 11:36 a.m., the 40 meter high Polcevera Viaduct, a motorway bridge planned by Riccardo Morandi and opened in 1967 on the section of the A10 in Genoa operated by Autostrade per l'Italia, collapsed over a length of over 200 meters , with 30 to 35 cars and three trucks falling, killing at least 43 people. As a result, it was announced in July 2020 that the Italian government is buying back Atlantia's stake .
