Averbeck's warehouse in Glane: The local history museum is located in the warehouse building on the left

Averbecks Speicher is a local history museum in Glane, a district of Bad Iburg in Lower Saxony .

history

The museum is located in the former warehouse of the Averbeck full inheritance. The farm was first documented in 1253, but it is probably around 200 years older. On August 4, 1994, the farmer Adolf Averbeck († 2013) established a foundation to which he brought the farm and its agricultural operation. The purposes of the Averbeck Foundation include the promotion of cultural purposes as well as the preservation of local history and monuments and local history.

The warehouse, a three-storey building with a ground floor made of quarry stone , a plastered half-timbered storey and a gable roof, was restored and equipped for exhibition purposes. The museum was designed by the Glane Heimatverein and the Bad Iburg Heritage Association.

At the opening of the museum in 1998 an exhibition with oil paintings by the art educator and painter Johann Brand from Osnabrück was shown. He had lived with the Averbeck family in 1955 and during this time made a series of pictures of the farm and its buildings.

The permanent exhibition on the history of the Averbeckschen Hof is located on the upper and attic floors, with a model of the 11th century court settlement. It is based on excavations of the Osnabrück city and district archeology in 1994 and 1995. Traces of settlement have already been identified from the ninth century. On the first floor, paintings commemorate the Glane-born sculptor and professor Heinrich Pohlmann (1839–1917). In Glane his works can be found in the parish church of St. James the Elder.

The gold bonnets were part of the costume of married women in Glane

The second focus of the permanent exhibition is the area of textile history with traditional costumes from Glane from 1900, traditional costume accessories and jewelry from the Osnabrück region and a collection of bonnets, including gold and silver caps. Exhibits demonstrate handicraft techniques from embroidery to bobbin lace as well as artistic samplers . The oldest sampler dates from 1722. Some of the exhibits in the local history museum are on loan from Osnabrück museums.

The ground floor offers space for temporary exhibitions and smaller events.

In 2016, the local history museum in Glane was expanded to include additional exhibition space in the residential building and in the former farm building on Averbeck's courtyard. A home archive is also housed there.
