Axel Buether

Axel Buether (* 1967 in Weimar ) is a German media scholar , perceptual psychology and architect with the research priorities color , light and space and co-founder of modern color psychology . He is professor for didactics of visual communication at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . Since 2007 he has been the chairman of the board of the “Deutsches Farbenzentrum e. V. - Central Institute for Color in Science and Design ”.

Life

After training as a stonemason and working as a restorer and freelance stone sculptor , he studied architecture at the TU Berlin , the UdK Berlin and the Architectural Association London. Axel Buether earned a diploma in architecture and then realized numerous projects in the areas of spatial scenography and media art such as the Bertelsmann Pavilion at EXPO 2000 . He then did his doctorate in the border area of perceptual psychology and architectural theory at the University of Stuttgart with the thesis "Semiotics of the visual space"

After a scientific assistant in 1999-2005 in the field of "Designing Residential and Social Buildings" at the University of Cottbus , he was appointed to the professorship "Color, Light, Space" at the Burg Giebichenstein Art College in Halle in 2006 . In 2012, he was appointed to the professorship “Perceptual Psychology and Creativity” in the Faculty of Media · Information · Design at the University of Hanover . In 2013 he was offered the professorship “Design and Design Theory” in the Faculty of Education · Architecture · Arts at the University of Siegen . In 2012 he was offered the professorship in "Didactics of Visual Communication" at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal , where he is currently active in teaching and research in the Faculty of Design and Art.

Buether became known beyond specialist circles through popular science lectures, publications, conferences and broadcasts.
