Axel Nicolai Herlofson
Axel Nicolai Herlofson (born August 29, 1845 in Østre Moland , † 1910 in Christiania ) was a Norwegian banker and convicted fraudster.
Herlofson was best known through the so-called Arendal Crash , which affected the Arendal private bank, which Herlofson had co-founded in 1874.
In 1886 the bank went bankrupt and Herlofson was convicted of fraud and sentenced to six years' imprisonment. For years he had robbed customers and employees of their money.
The bank crash caused Arendal to lose its role as an important trading city in southern Norway.
