Ay on the Iller

Ay an der Iller is the largest district of the city of Senden in the Bavarian district of Neu-Ulm . The place name used to be Oy , but later developed into Ay. Ay was first mentioned historically as Oy situm apud Kirchberg in 1256. In 1971 the market of Senden merged with the municipality of Ay ad Iller.

The coat of arms shows a mill wheel on the left, which stands for the numerous former mills along the Mühlbach stream flowing through Ay. On the right is a shuttle that refers to the Ay spinning and weaving mill, which was founded in 1857 .

On July 1, 1971 Ay was incorporated into the city of Senden .
