Aycelin
The Aycelin family played an important role in French diplomacy in the 14th century . It provided five bishops, three cardinals , two keepers or chancellors of France , as well as a dean of the college of cardinals .
The outstanding people in this family are, on the one hand, the sons of Pierre Aycelin:
- Gilles I. Aycelin de Montaigut , Archbishop of Narbonne and Rouen , keeper of the seals of France and de facto Chancellor of France
- Hugues Aycelin , known as Hugues Seguin de Billay, Cardinal and Dean of the College of Cardinals
- Jean Aycelin († 1301 ), Bishop of Clermont 1298
on the other hand to the great-nephew of the three brothers, Gilles II. Aycelin de Montaigut , cardinal and bishop of Thérouanne , chancellor of France and finally to Pierre Aycelin de Montaigut , cardinal, bishop of Nevers and Laon , a nephew of Gilles II.
