The Ayda Katti (or Aydha-Katti , Adya Katti , Ayudha Katti ) was a cutting sword in the Kodagu district in the Indian province of Karnataka .

In the historic Coorg region on the Malabar Coast , the Ayda Katti was used as a weapon and tool . It was created around the 17th century.

description

The Ayda Katti consists of a heavy, single-edged blade with a convex back, not unlike a kukri . From the handle (handle) the blade runs very broad and massive towards the point. Only the concave side is sharpened. The handle is made of wood and has no guard. The pommel consists of an egg-shaped wooden disc, which, like the handle, is decorated with traditional carvings. The Ayda Katti is worn without a scabbard . There is a special carrying device consisting of a silver chain that serves as a belt and a large brass ring to hang the knife.
