Ayhan Kaya

Ayhan Kaya (born March 1, 1968 ) is a Turkish sociologist , author and translator .

He received his Masters of Sciences and PhD from the University of Warwick .

The director of the European Research Center at the Bilgi University in Istanbul is an expert on the subject of "Turks in the European Diaspora ", especially the Turks living in Germany and France, as well as the Caucasian minority in Turkey.

His publications include u. a. the book Safe in Kreuzberg: Constructing Diasporas , which is available in German and Turkish.

He has also written various articles on “Turkish youth culture in Berlin”, “Strategies for the political participation of Turks living in Germany” and “Berlin Alevis ”. He translated Ethnic Groups and Boundaries by Fredrik Barth and Citizenship and Social Classes by TH Marshall and Tom Bottomore into Turkish. Kaya is also co-editor of Issues Without Borders: Migration, Citizenship, Human Rights, Global Justice, Gender and Security (Istanbul) . He is therefore regarded as an expert on questions relating to the Turkish minorities in Germany and France.

He received the Turkish Prize for Social Sciences in 2003 and the Turkish Academy of Sciences Prize in 2005.
