Life

The trained civil engineer converted the football division of Fenerbahçe into a successful commercial enterprise based on the example of top western clubs. After missing the championship on the last match day in Denizli, Yıldırım resigned as club president on May 18, 2006, but was re-elected club president a short time later, on June 25.

Procedure

Yıldırım had been in custody since July 3, 2011 because of several allegations of manipulation, of which the Turkish Football Association TFF had previously acquitted him. The trial began on February 14, 2012 in Istanbul. On July 2, 2012, he was found guilty by the Turkish Special Court and sentenced to six years and three months in prison. On April 17, 2014, the Supreme Court upheld the verdict. By then he had been at large, and initially stayed that way.

Yıldırım appealed the court's decision. On June 23, 2014, an Istanbul court ordered the retrial because the principle of equal treatment had been violated. The judgment of the abolished Special Court remains final, but the sentence remains suspended until the new trial is completed. On September 3, 2014, Trabzonspor's appeals against Yıldırım's retrial and parole were dismissed.

successes

His goal of annual sales of the equivalent of 90 million euros for the club's centenary in 2007 was already achieved in 2005. Yıldırım brought the club to the Istanbul Stock Exchange . With a record turnover of 111 million euros, Fenerbahçe was one of the top twenty clubs in the world in terms of turnover.
