Azra was a Yugoslav rock band . It was founded in 1977 by Branimir "Johnny" Štulić in Zagreb , the capital of Croatia .
history
The band name is based on the Bosnian Sevdalinka , Kraj tanana šadrvana. The name comes from the verse “Ja se zovem El Muhamed / Iz plemena starih Azra / Što za ljubav život gube / I umiru kada ljube!” (German: »My name is El Muhamed / From the tribe of the old Azras / Which for them Love lose their life / Those who die when they love. «) This song is derived from the poem Der Asra by Heinrich Heine . The first album "Azra" was released in 1980 by Jugoton. After the last studio album Izmedju krajnosti came out in 1987 , the band released the four-time live LP Zadovoljština in 1988 . After that, Branimir Štulić broke up the band to pursue a solo career.
