The Azure Cove ( French Baie d'Azure , Blue Bay ' ) is a 1.5 km deep bay on the Danco coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located immediately east of the Cangrejo Cove in the southwestern part of the Bay of Flanders and on the north side of the Kiev Peninsula .
It was discovered during the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) led by the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery . He named it after the color impression he received from the surroundings of the bay when his ship Belgica was anchored at dusk. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee converted the original name into English on September 23, 1960.
