The Cangrejo Cove ( Spanish Bahia Cangrejo , cancer bay ' ; in the UK Crab Cove is a 2.5 km deep) Bay on the Danco Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . On the north side of the Kiev Peninsula , it is located immediately west of Azure Cove in the south-western part of the Bay of Flanders .
It was first roughly mapped on the Belgica expedition (1897–1899) under the direction of the Belgian polar explorer Adrien de Gerlache de Gomery . The bay received its descriptive name from participants in an Argentine Antarctic expedition that lasted from 1951 to 1952. The name is derived from a small peninsula on the west side of the bay, which from a bird's eye view reminds of the pincers of a crab. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this designation into English in 1965. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee decided in 1978 on a full translation.
