The Bänischsee is a quarry pond in the area of Rheda-Wiedenbrück in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Location and description

The Bänischsee is located in the north of the area of ​​the city of Rheda-Wiedenbrück in the Gütersloh district . It is located on the edge of the more than 1,000 hectare Rheda Forest directly on the B64 .

It has a size of 24 hectares and is up to 12 m deep.

use

The Bänischsee is mainly used for fishing. The lake is looked after by the sport fishing association Rheda-Gütersloh eV, which also takes care of the renaturation of the area. Since 2012, the association's fishing youth has been planting pond and water lilies , building planted swimming islands and distributing dead wood in grids on the bottom of the lake to provide new refuge for fish. In 2013 she received the environmental protection award of the city of Rheda-Wiedenbrück.
