Bärbel Klässner

Bärbel Klässner (born October 16, 1960 in Magdeburg ) is a German poet and prose writer .

Life

Bärbel Klässner studied social psychology from 1979 to 1982 at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. In the 80s she got involved in the opposition movement within the Evangelical Church of the GDR. In Jena she co-edited the illegal newspaper "Frau anders". She has been leading writing groups and workshops since 1995. She lives as a freelance writer in Essen.

Bärbel Klässner writes poetry and prose. Her poems have been retouched and published in Catalan (1998), Polish (2001) and Hungarian (2003).

  • 2010: Award from the Society for the Promotion of Westphalian Cultural Work in the competition "Don't tell fairy tales or defend Hans im Glück"
  • 2011: Clara and Eduard Rosenthal scholarship from the city of Jena for literature and urban writing
  • 2012: Prize winner in the postpoetry competition in North Rhine-Westphalia
  • 2013: Harald Gerlach Literature Scholarship from the Free State of Thuringia
