Association of women authors

The female authors' association is a network for German-speaking women writers of all genres from Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the legal form of a registered association . The association was founded in 2006 as the sponsoring association of the Rheinsberg Female Authors' Forum, but the network's cooperation dates back to the 1990s.

history

In 1995 the authors J. Monika Walther and Ingrid Protze, together with the literary scholar Elisabeth Roters-Ullrich from the Ruhr Literature Office, set up the first literary salon for German-speaking women writers in Rheinsberg , from which the Rheinsberg Women’s Forum developed in the following years, an event with symposia and Workshops by well-known authors such as Karen Duve , Elke Erb or Franziska Gerstenberg , which has also been awarding its own literature prize to several authors since 2000. In 2007 the 6th female authors' forum took place in Berlin. In 2007 the award was endowed with a total of 7,500 euros. a. Ursula von der Leyen .

In 2006, the female authors' association was founded as the sponsoring association of this forum and organized the 6th forum in Rheinsberg and Berlin, in cooperation with the Ruhr Literature Office, the NRW Women's Culture Office and the PEN Center and funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Jugend , the Robert Bosch Stiftung , the Kulturstiftung NRW and the state governments of Berlin and Brandenburg. The authors' association also signed as co-editor of the documentation for this forum under the title “Thin is the ceiling of civilization. Encounters between women writers ”.

Association and activities

The association of authors maintains regular meetings of authors in many German cities, organizes reading series and workshops and provides information about events by German-speaking authors with the monthly Amelia newsletter (named after the American women's rights activist Amelia Earhart ). In addition, the “Poetic Experiments” take place once a year in Düsseldorf. Since 2010, the association of authors has also been awarding project grants at irregular intervals. The association of women authors was in Berlin on October 2, 2016 - in addition to 42 authors, the Federal Association of Young Authors, PEN , the Association of German Writers , TSWTC, PAN, Syndicate and Murderous Sisters - a founding member of the network of authors' rights.

In 2011 the association had 125 members, according to the former chairman Jana Juerß.
