The Bäuerliche Notgemeinschaft Lüchow-Dannenberg is an association of farmers from the Lüchow-Dannenberg region who are involved in the resistance against the Gorleben nuclear waste storage facility , especially the planned repository in the Gorleben salt dome .

history

Protest at the Castor Transport 2010

Shortly after plans to build a “nuclear waste disposal center” in Gorleben became known at the end of the 1970s, widespread resistance arose in the region. In the agricultural Wendland , up until then more conservative peasant circles took part in this. The motivation for this was the fear of no longer being able to sell agricultural products from the vicinity of the nuclear facilities.

From a purely economically motivated opposition to the construction of the nuclear waste disposal center, the group's attitude developed through intensive examination of the topic of "peaceful use of nuclear energy" to a generally negative attitude towards this form of energy generation and its consequences, especially against the background of unresolved repository issue.

Since the beginning of the protest against the nuclear facilities, the members of the rural emergency community have participated in the protests with their tractors. For example, there were tractor treks to the former federal capital Bonn and the Lower Saxony state capital Hanover, such as the Gorleben trek in 1979 .

Since 2008, the Bäuerliche Notgemeinschaft has also been campaigning against the use of genetic engineering in agriculture .

Organizational form

The Bäuerliche Notgemeinschaft is a loose association of farmers from the Lüchow-Dannenberg region formed in 1977. There is neither a statute nor a board or membership fee. A formal legal structure, for example that of a registered association (eV), is deliberately avoided in order to be open to all interested parties. There is now an independent rural emergency community in the Uelzen-Lüneburg region.

Forms of action

According to its own statement, the Bäuerliche Notgemeinschaft takes great care in all of its actions that no people are endangered. Damage to property, for example to police vehicles, is also avoided.

As part of their protests, the members of the rural emergency community often use their agricultural implements, especially their tractors. They take part in demonstrations with these tractors, but in the past they also tried to block the road transport route between Dannenberg and the interim storage facility in Gorleben as part of Castor transports to Gorleben . During previous transports, further blockade actions were carried out by chaining to concrete pyramids.

Blockade of the Castor transport in 2011

During the Castor transport in November 2010, a new tactic was used. Instead of blockades directly on the transport route, there were decentralized blockades in the entire area between Lüneburg and Gorleben. The farmers blocked important crossroads with their tractors and at times almost completely brought the police's staff and material supplies to a standstill. This new form of action was intended to support those people who blocked the Castor transport by means of sit-downs on the rails between Lüneburg and Dannenberg and on the road transport route.

On November 27, 2011, four members of the rural emergency community blocked a section of the Castor transport track in 2011 by chaining themselves to a pyramid made of concrete and steel. Due to the ingenious construction of the pyramid, special police forces were unable to remove the activists from the track bed, which delayed the transport of Castor. After about 15 hours the chained released their blockade voluntarily.

In November 2012 members of the rural emergency community participated with tractors in the blockade of the Grohnde nuclear power plant in order to prevent one of the MOX transports to Germany .
