The citizens 'initiative environmental protection Lüchow-Dannenberg is a citizens' initiative that opposes the transport and storage of radioactive waste in Wendland and advocates the promotion of renewable energies . It is one of the oldest citizens' initiatives in Germany and the largest regional resistance group against nuclear transports to the Gorleben nuclear waste storage facility .

history

The initiative was founded in 1972 by citizens to prevent a nuclear power plant in Langendorf on the Elbe. After Gorleben was named as a nuclear waste disposal center on February 22, 1977, the initiative set the goal of preventing the establishment of a reprocessing plant and the Gorleben nuclear waste storage facility. On March 2, 1977 the citizens' initiative environmental protection Lüchow-Dannenberg e. V. entered in the register of associations at the Dannenberg District Court . Some members are now in the 3rd generation in the anti-nuclear movement in Wendland.

The citizens' initiative sees itself as independent and non-party. In cooperation with the network X-thousand times across and the rural emergency community, she organized peaceful protests on the Castor route . The association is financed through membership fees and donations and has over 1000 members.

After the federal government decided to gradually phase out nuclear power in 2011 , the initiative advocates the expansion of renewable energies and a decentralized energy policy, and continues to campaign for an immediate end to nuclear waste production. The main concern is the critical monitoring of the process of finding a nuclear waste repository, which was restarted in July 2013 with the Site Selection Act (StandAG). The citizens' initiative fears that the Gorleben- Rambow salt dome , which they consider unsuitable, will be legitimized as a nuclear waste repository.

Board members of the citizens' initiative included Marianne Fritzen , Rebecca Harms , Johannes Kempmann , Marianne Tritz , Martin Mombaur , Jochen Stay , Undine von Blottnitz , Kerstin Rudek , Lieselotte Wollny and Wolfgang Ehmke .

The citizens' initiative regularly sends out the newspaper “Gorleben Rundschau” free of charge. In addition, it publishes the series "zumache" - each with a special issue. The association has had an office in Lüchow since 1977.
