Sérgio Dutra Santos , called Serginho or Escadinha (born October 15, 1975 in Diamante do Norte ) is a Brazilian volleyball player .

Career

Santos started his career in 1998 at EC Palmeiras São Paulo . In 2001 he made his debut in the world league with the Brazilian national team , which then won the competition. From 2003 to 2007 and 2009 further victories in the world league followed. In 2002, Brazil and Santos became world champions for the first time with a success in the final against Russia . The following year, the national team won the World Cup with Santos . In the 2003/04 season, the Libero played for EC Banespa . At the 2004 Olympics , Santos won the gold medal with Brazil by beating Italy . He was then committed by the Italian first division club Copra Piacenza . With the club he won the Top Teams Cup 2006 . In the same year, Brazil defended the title at the World Cup in Japan by beating Poland . In 2007 the national team also succeeded in front of their home crowd at the Pan American Games . The following year Santos reached the final of the Champions League with Piacenza against Dinamo Tattransgas Kazan . Then the Libero took part for the second time in the Olympic tournament , which ended for the defending champion in the final against the USA . Santos then left the Italian league and initially played for Santander S. Bernardo before joining SESI São Paulo . In 2011 he was Brazilian champion with São Paulo and South American champion with the national team . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , he again won the silver medal with Brazil. In 2015 he won the South American Championship for the seventh time. In 2016 Santos ended his national team career in Rio de Janeiro with his second Olympic victory.

Santos has received many awards in his career as “Most Valuable Player ( MVP )”, “Best Libero” or “Best Defender”.
