Bödmeren primeval forest and the Silberen karst area

The Bödmerenwald in the canton of Schwyz lies at the end of the Muota valley towards the Pragel Pass . With around 450 hectares, it is the largest primeval forest in the Alpine region . The core area of ​​the Bödmerenwald of around 150 hectares consists primarily of untouched spruce jungle. This core area of ​​approx. 200 ha is surrounded by forests that are used for forestry and alpine farming, but are still very natural. 70 hectares of the core area are protected as a reserve. The oldest trees in the forest are more than 500 years old.
