Bödmerenwald
The Bödmerenwald in the canton of Schwyz lies at the end of the Muota valley towards the Pragel Pass . With around 450 hectares, it is the largest primeval forest in the Alpine region . The core area of the Bödmerenwald of around 150 hectares consists primarily of untouched spruce jungle. This core area of approx. 200 ha is surrounded by forests that are used for forestry and alpine farming, but are still very natural. 70 hectares of the core area are protected as a reserve. The oldest trees in the forest are more than 500 years old.
