BücherTreff.de is a German-speaking online community for readers and authors. Users manage their book collection here, make recommendations and discuss the works of their favorite authors.

History and content

The project started - initially as a hobby project - on September 8, 2003 as the first German literary community with book-specific extensions in order to simplify the exchange about books. For the first time, it was possible to add bibliographic information to your articles by just entering the ISBN .

At the center of the platform is an extensive forum for registered users to exchange information on book-related topics as well as for book presentations and reviews. Reading rounds and reading nights are also organized. The latter was a leisure tip from Focus Schule in 2006 . Author interviews, various "leaderboards", lists of book series and a calendar with appointments for readings can also be accessed on the website.

The Web 2.0 components were expanded as the number of users and contributions grew . Virtual bookshelves can be set up on a personal profile page in order to be able to compare them with one another and to find readers with similar interests. Wish lists can also be created and your own reading times recorded and shared in reading statistics.

As a literature community, BücherTreff is also recommended in marketing guides for authors.

In 2010, BücherTreff had 8,000 registered members, in January 2015 the community had 20,000 members, 1.5 million posts, 26,500 reviews and 79 percent of the community was women.
