Rifle barrel
The Büchsenstadel in Ulm is a former municipal warehouse from the 15th century.
History, origin of name
The Büchsenstadel in Ulm's old town (address: Platzgasse 18) was built in 1485 as a three-story warehouse for the imperial city of Ulm. At first it served as a salt and grain store, from 1592 as a gun store , which is reminiscent of the stone cannonballs walled into the western outer front. The term rifle refers to the popular name for a rifle and its accessories, and barbel is the common term for a warehouse in southern Germany . With this use, the warehouse was also a secondary armory .
Building description, use
The upper floors have exposed half-timbering . The brick gables on the east and west side are characterized by original late Gothic keel arches (donkey backs). Inside there are sub - divided half-timbered halls . A coat of arms console is attached to the northwest corner.
