Checking the overhead line on the new Ingolstadt – Nuremberg line with a pantograph

The first test run of an electric rail vehicle on track systems is known as the hoop run . The function of the contact line systems , signals , switches , bus stop systems and various other technical parameters are tested. But above all, it is checked whether the pantograph (bracket) is always touching the contact wire to collect the current .

The term is often used more generally for any form of test drive to determine the functionality of a new or converted track system, for example to test whether the track vacancy detection system still reports track occupancy in accordance with regulations after a long period of non-use of a track system .
