The Herford district

The Bünder Land is part of the Herford district in north-eastern North Rhine-Westphalia . It describes the catchment area of the central center of Bünde , which in addition to the Bünder urban area, which today also includes the formerly independent rural communities of the old Bünder surrounding area, essentially still includes the neighboring communities of Rödinghausen and Kirchlengern , the district of Hücker-Aschen from the neighboring town of Spenge , the district of Oberbauerschaft from the neighboring municipality of Hüllhorst as well as the district Börninghausen of the city of Preußisch Oldendorf . Outlined in this way, around 77,000 people live in the area.

On the one hand, the term generally reflects the historical importance of the city of Bünde for its rural surroundings. An early example of this was the establishment of the Prussian district of Bünde in 1816, which extended over an even larger area, but was dissolved again in 1832. As a result of industrialization , Bünde, previously a mere titular town , grew into a real urban center. In 1879 it became the seat of a local court , which still exists today and is responsible for the three named municipalities. In addition, the space does not show any particular historical, cultural or natural spatial independence, but is embedded in larger contexts as part of Minden-Ravensberg , the Ravensberger Land or the Ravensberger Mulde .

On the other hand, the current uses of the term “Bünder Land”, which, however, do not occur too often, refer to the specific organizational interweaving of the Bünder with its neighboring communities. One example is the pastoral association "Bünder Land" , which brings together the Catholic parishes in the area.
