The Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic is a professional orchestra based in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.

history

In the spring of 1989 musicians founded the “Bündner Kammerorchester” around the conductor Christoph Cajöri. Its first concert took place on December 29, 1989 in the Chur Comanderkirche .

Over the years the orchestra has developed steadily and has become the "Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic".

The Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic is organized as an association. Jacqueline Giger Cahannes has been President since October 2016.

orchestra

The regular cast of the Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic includes 33 musicians.

Around 50 concerts are performed each season. In addition to classical symphony and choral concerts, there are cross-genre projects such as film music (Charlie Chaplin, Winnetou), dance events with salon music , family concerts or the “Side by Side” project, in which amateur musicians perform side by side with the orchestra members. The Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic is also the organizer of the “Schlossoper Haldenstein”, which has been taking place every two years since 2001, and co-organizer of the Graubünden Biennale for New Music “tuns contemporans”.

The musical focus of the Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic is particularly on Swiss composers, in particular on Graubünden composers from the past and present.

Concert venues

The Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic performs in central locations in Graubünden, such as Chur, but also in churches, hotels and halls in remote valleys of Graubünden. Regular performances take place in Flims, Ilanz, Arosa, Reichenau, Sent, Scuol, St. Moritz, Pontresina, Soglio and Lenzerheide. Additional venues are added depending on the season's program. The Kammerphilharmonie has regular guest performances in other cantons in Switzerland and in neighboring countries.

The "smallest concert hall in the world"

In a disused telephone booth, passers-by can use the rotary dial to listen to pieces that can be found in the Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic's program. The “smallest concert hall in the world” is centrally located in Chur and has been in operation since August 2018.
