Philippe Bach (* 1974 in Saanen ) is a Swiss conductor .

biography

After studying the horn in Geneva and Bern Philippe Bach studied conducting at the University of the Arts in Zurich under Johannes Schlaefli and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Sir Mark Elder . From 2006 to 2008 he was assistant conductor at the Teatro Real in Madrid . There he made his debut in June 2007 with the opera “ Madama Butterfly ”. In 2008, the play " Hansel and Gretel (Opera) " followed at the Hamburg State Opera . From 2008 to 2010 Bach was Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director (GMD) at the theater in Lübeck .

From the 2010/11 season, Bach will be general music director at the Meininger Theater and conductor of the Meininger court orchestra . When applying for this position, he prevailed against 240 other applicants. Here he was the musical director of “ Der Rosenkavalier ” by Richard Strauss , Mozart's “ Die Zauberflöte ”, Verdi's opera “ Rigoletto ”, Wagner's “ Tannhauser and the Singers 'War on Wartburg ” and Richard Strauss' “ Capriccio ”. Since 2012 he has continued to be the chief conductor of the Bern Chamber Orchestra .

As of the 2016/17 season, Bach will also act as chief conductor of the Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic .

As a guest conductor, Philippe Bach has conducted many concerts with numerous European orchestras.
