In 1885, Martin Bürgel founded Martin Bürgel GmbH in Berlin . By the beginning of the 20th century, 300 Bürgel information centers had been opened in Germany.

In 1903 the branch organization was converted into an organization with owner-managed Bürgel offices, the Cartell of the United Burgel credit bureaus , and Bürgel Centrale GmbH , based in Aachen, was founded. From the point of view of today's company, this already happened "in the spirit and meaning of a franchise organization". In 1904 around 300 Bürgel partners signed a partnership agreement. In 1994 the Bürgel headquarters moved to Hamburg . Euler Hermes Deutschland AG ( Allianz Group ) and EOS Holding GmbH ( Otto Group ) were shareholders of the newly founded Bürgel Wirtschaftsinformationen GmbH & Co. KG until 2016 . In February 2016, the global credit agency group CRIF, headquartered in Bologna , Italy, took over all shares in the Bürgel Group. In July 2016, CRIF also took over Deltavista GmbH, Karlsruhe. In July 2017, these two companies merged to form CRIF Bürgel GmbH.
