The Dresden Community Foundation is located in a building that was previously used as an SED guest house at Barteldesplatz 2 in Dresden-Blasewitz

The Dresden Community Foundation was founded in 1999 as the first community foundation in the new federal states . The Körber Foundation , active in Dresden in previous years , made the rooms of her Dresden house available to her and provided her with start-up capital of DM 100,000 .

activity

More than 250 citizens, associations and companies have participated in building up the foundation capital and in setting up special-purpose foundation funds. With the income from the foundation's capital and with the help of donations and third-party funds, various cultural, social, educational and environmental projects could be initiated and implemented in Dresden. In the first few years after its establishment, the Bürgerstiftung Dresden u. a. supported the construction of the Erich Kästner Museum , the restoration of the palace in the Great Garden and the reopening of the Schillerhäuschen . The foundation now supports projects from the spectrum of its statutes to the extent of 500,000 euros annually or carries them out operationally. The community foundation administers over 60 trust foundations, endowment funds and foundations with legal capacity under its umbrella.

The foundation is currently actively involved in three projects: it is the owner of the Sophienkirche-Busmannkapelle memorial, it is the project sponsor of the Kulturloge and it is conducting a nationally recognized school project through the intergenerational dialogue.

An important concern of the community foundation is the promotion of voluntary work . For 18 years there have been thank you events under the motto “Unpaid, but not for free” and the “Volunteer Pass”, for which the Foundation offers reduced admission to private and all public cultural institutions, to all swimming pools and some companies can provide. The volunteer pass and the thank-you event are now awarded and carried out in partnership with the state capital of Dresden. Since the beginning of 2019, the voluntary agency of the community foundation has been able to experience an upgrade thanks to the funding of the mayor's office: the foundation now operates an electronic and moderated mediation platform and promotes voluntary work in Dresden.

In 2002 and 2003, the foundation collected 1.621 million euros in donations as flood relief . For this, among other things, she received the German Stifterpreis 2003 of the Federal Association of German Foundations.

Since 2006 the foundation has been tasked with promoting civic engagement across the country in accordance with a guideline of the Saxon State Ministry for Social Affairs under the motto “We for Saxony”. Every year around 6,000 applications with a funding volume of over 9 million euros are submitted to 24,000 volunteers throughout Saxony Saxony for the Free State.
