The Büssing A5P street armored car was a German armored car from the First World War .
history
In October 1914, the OHL placed an order with Büssing , Daimler and Ehrhardt for the construction of an armored scout vehicle. Büssing's A5P was judged to be inferior to the Ehrhardt EV / 4 , whereupon production was discontinued after the completion of the third vehicle.
The existing A5P were later combined in a "Panzerkraftwagen MG-Zug" and moved to the Eastern Front, where they were used with some success.
construction
The A5P differed from contemporary armored vehicles mainly in its size and chassis. All four wheels were driven and the steering was designed redundantly (both in the front and in the rear of the vehicle) to ensure a quick change of position.
A total of 10 machine gun hatches were installed for the 3 machine guns that were carried along , so the shooters had to take the machine gun out of the holder and switch to the next hatch when the field of fire changed.
The large wheel rim made the vehicle only roadworthy despite the all-wheel drive .
