activities

The office is located at the Psychiatric Clinic of the Technical University of Munich . In BASTA, mentally ill people and their relatives, specialists (doctors, psychologists, social workers) and activists (journalists, artists, volunteers) work together on projects to raise awareness of mental illnesses and to reduce discrimination against the mentally ill. Special emphasis is placed on working with schoolchildren, media representatives and police officers. The initiative also runs the Stigma Alarm Network ( SANE ), which reacts to cases of public discrimination, and organizes cultural projects such as exhibitions and film screenings on the subject of mental illness.

history

As part of the global Open the Doors campaign, which began in 1999, the BASTA working group was founded in Munich in 2001 under the name “Bavarian Anti-Stigma Action”. Due to the expansion of activities beyond Bavaria , the change to today's name "BASTA - The Alliance for Mentally Ill People" followed. At the suggestion of BASTA, Nazi crimes against mentally ill people were included as a topic in the Nazi Documentation Center in Munich, which opened on April 30, 2015.
