BC Düsseldorf
The Badminton Club Düsseldorf eV (Reichsstrasse 27, 40217 Düsseldorf) is a sports club founded in 1952 and the first badminton club in Düsseldorf .
The founding history of the association began with the renting of the DEG Metro Stars sports area , where two sports teachers taught young people how to play badminton. As a result of the success of the offer, Hubert Brohl founded the Badminton Club Düsseldorf in 1952 - the first club of its kind in the state capital. Dieter Schramm , Ute Seelbach and Eckart Paatsch achieved the greatest successes for the club in the second half of the 1950s and in the first half of the 1960s. At the German individual championships, these athletes won five championship titles for the BC. As a team, Düsseldorf was also one of the best teams in North Rhine-Westphalia and played in the highest league in the state during this time, but never managed to place itself in front of two of the Germany-wide dominating teams from Bonn, Solingen, Merscheid, Bochum or Beuel and for to qualify for the German finals.
In 2011 BC Düsseldorf had more than 130 members. In 2017, the club consisted of three senior teams in three divisions, a mini-team U19 and a student team U15. The first senior team played in the district league, the second in the district class and the third in the district league.
