history
In May 1996 seven Greeks who immigrated to Germany wrote an association statute on May 15, 1996 and founded BC Hellenen München eV in August 1996, which they also reported to the Munich District Court. The first chairman of the new association was Argirios Prodromou, born on December 13, 1942, the second chairman was Ilias Simeonidis, born on May 28, 1948, Ioannis Sagias, born on March 21, 1961, took on the duties of cashier. Further members of the board of the new association were Georgios Vlachiotis, born on May 8, 1956, Vassilios Theodoridis, born on May 13, 1958, Ioannis Mitsanis, born on May 1, 1956 and Georgios Tsoraklidis, born on May 11, 1942. The association became a BLSV member, also a member of the Bavarian Basketball Association and registered its first basketball teams to play.
In September 2011, for the first time in the club's history, an FSJ -man, Michael Jacobi, was hired. Before that, the club had to qualify as an assignment location for the Bavarian Sports Youth. The recognition as a place of work for FSJ in sport was completed on September 7, 2011.
The association grew from August 2009 to August 2011 to over 150 members and the organizational structure was very dynamic.
In 2011 there were the compulsory new elections for the club, in which Konstantin Kirsch launched a completely new five-year program. In the meantime, the association took part in the program and at the same time a model project of the state capital Munich as a pilot, which was entitled "Intercultural opening in organized sport", which was headed by Inga Bergmann. The club applied for this in April 2010 and was one of ten selected clubs that were allowed to participate in the model project of the Munich Sports Office.
Various areas were laid down in the five-year plan:
- “Uniting Cultures” should be introduced as a new motto. A concept based on the smart principle was introduced.
- Integration of migrants through sport in the children and youth sector should be specifically promoted.
- The women's team, founded in 2010, should be promoted more.
- A press attendant should be appointed.
- In cooperation with the Alfonsschule and the Rupprechtgymnasium in Munich, a school working group was sought.
- The home games of the first men's team should be recorded on video.
- The cooperation with sponsors such as Aegean Airlines, which was established in 2010, should be expanded.
Athletic development of the men's team
The main goal of the entire board was the promotion of the first men's team to the performance-oriented Bayernliga Süd, which was achieved in the 2012/2013 season. In the 2013/2014 season, the team competed in the Bayern League for the first time. In the 2015/16 season he was promoted to the 2nd regional league as champions. As a newcomer to the league, the march succeeded in 2016/17: The Hellenes secured the title in the 2nd Regionalliga Süd and thus rose to the 1st Regionalliga Südost. With regard to the premiere year (2017/18) in the 1st regional league, an experienced head coach was hired in the form of the Greek Christos Dictapanidis, the team also received reinforcement from well-known players such as the American Omari Knox and the winger Jermaine Lippert. The 2017/18 season ended in sixth place in the 1st regional league.
Presidium today
Konstantin Kirsch has headed the association as chairman and president at the same time since July 2009. Kenan Koldere (of Turkish descent), as 2nd chairman, is primarily responsible for the youth teams, but also for important club tasks such as refereeing. Since October 2016, Nelli Schweinfort (Finance Officer), Stefanie Lübker (Marketing and Communication), Sidney D'Almeida (Secretary), Miriam Storch (Sports Director) and Sandy Lorenz (Merchandising and Corporate Design) are officially responsible for the further management of the club re-elected board members responsible. The association was given a general overhaul at the beginning of 2010 and its work was put under the motto "Uniting Cultures". A new website was also launched in October 2016.
