The BEV Bavarian energy supply mbH ( BEV energy ) was a power company from Munich . The company was founded in 2013 and sold electricity and gas directly on its corporate website. Until 2018, sales also took place via the price comparison portals Verivox and Check24 . As an electricity and gas supplier, BEV Energie supplied private and business customers. In addition to the central areas in Munich (headquarters), there were also the Offenburg and Halle (Saale) locations . In 2019 the company filed for bankruptcy .

Electricity mix

According to the electricity labeling in accordance with Section 42 EnWG , the electricity BEV was made up as follows: nuclear power (9.5%), coal (34.4%), natural gas (9.1%), other renewable energies (0.4%), renewables Energy subsidized according to EEG (45.3%), other fossil fuels (1.3%).

This means that BEV Energie had a share of renewable energy that was slightly above the national average. In 2016, for example, the nationwide average for energy sources was : nuclear power (14.3%), coal (41.8%), natural gas (9.5%), other renewable energies (3.2%), renewable energies subsidized according to the EEG ( 28.8%) and other fossil fuels (2.4%).

criticism

The energy market watchdog had warned BEV due to unjustified advance payments. BEV was the electricity discounter with the most consumer complaints in Germany. Consumers complained in particular about late and incorrect electricity bills as well as late payment of credit. In December 2018, the BEV announced massive price increases (in some cases by several hundred percent in the monthly basic price) for February 1, 2019, and there were numerous customer complaints. The price increases were also declared despite the limited price guarantee agreed with the customer. The switch-up assistant, Switchup, pointed out in an evaluation the unusually high number of complaints. The Wirtschaftswoche reported that the Federal Network Agency had initiated a supervisory procedure against the "criticized cheap electricity provider BEV". Die Welt reported on the proposal by the BEV that the customer should voluntarily accept the price increase that is not yet permissible.

BEV Energie filed for bankruptcy on January 29, 2019 . As a result, the transmission system operators terminated the balancing group contracts so that BEV Energie could no longer supply its customers with energy in the relevant control areas. These customers were thus supplied by their local basic supplier .

After the bankruptcy, the claims of several hundred thousand private customers on the bankruptcy estate amounted to over 80 million euros. There were also demands from the network operators .
