Only the gate system remained from the old building.

history

Liebenau Castle, ~ 18. Century
Cadet School, ~ 1900.

Under the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I , an Austro-Hungarian cadet training institute was set up on the grounds of Liebenau Castle in 1854 .

In 1919, the school reformer Otto Glöckel transformed the institution into a federal educational institution (BEA). These boarding schools, of which there were only a handful in Austria, enabled gifted pupils to attend a first-class grammar school and boarding school regardless of their parents' financial circumstances or local opportunities.

After an interruption from 1935 to 1938 military secondary school, from April to August 1938 Wehrmacht high school, from October 1938 to 1940 high school of the Liebenau house of the large military orphanage in Potsdam, the school was continued as a BEA in 1947 until the federal educational institutions in the late 1970s in higher boarding schools of the Federal (HIB) were renamed.

The high school has been known for the athletic achievements of its students (since 1970 also female students) and an excellent choir since the post-war period. Until the late 1960s, the school had one of only two indoor swimming pools in Graz.
