Bab al-Salameh

Bab al-Salameh ( Arabic باب السلامة Bāb as-salāma  'gate of wellbeing') is a border crossing from northern Syria to Turkey . It lies north of Aleppo and north of Aʿzāz , Aleppo Governorate . The Turkish opposite side is called Öncüpınar Sınır Kapısı . The Bab al-Hawa border crossing lies further to the southwest.

Against the background of the Syrian civil war, a refugee camp has been set up at the border crossing . At the beginning of 2013, the head of the Syrian Crescent put the number of people at 9,000. At the end of October 2013 there were about 4,000 people here. At the beginning of 2015, around 16,850 people lived in the camp. The care is poor and leishmaniasis is rampant among the children . In winter, the cold in the tents is a problem for the refugees.

On February 20, 2014, a car bomb exploded in the refugee camp, leaving around 20 dead and 50 injured.

On May 15, 2014, 43 people died in a car bomb attack in a workshop near Bab al-Salameh.

The area is dominated by the Free Syrian Army . On August 13, 2015, IS launched an attack on the city of A'zaz, which is only a few kilometers away from Bab al-Salameh.
