Babar, the little elephant (original title: Les Aventures de Babar ) is a French children's series based on the picture book series Babar the elephant by Jean de Brunhoff . It was produced in France from 1969 to 1970 and broadcast on ORTF in 1969 . The German first broadcast took place on October 27, 1970. The individual episodes are approx. 5 minutes long and were shot as a mixture of mask play and pantomime with human actors.

Babar, a small elephant, flees the jungle into the city after his mother was shot by hunters. Here an elderly lady takes him in and raises him like a human child. As a fully grown elephant, Babar returns to the jungle, where he is crowned king of the elephants.
