Babar - The film is a 1989 Canadian - French animated film . It was produced by Nelvana Limited , Ellipse Program and Odessa Films . The premiere took place on July 28, 1989 in the USA. In Germany the film was released on video in 1991 and on DVD in 2008 . The film is based on the children's books about Babar by Jean de Brunhoff and his son Laurent .

A big pageant takes place every year in the elephant country. On the eve of the parade, Babar tells his children how as a young elephant he protected the village of Celeste, his current wife, from the rhinoceros king Rataxes and his army and how he ended the war between elephants and rhinos.

criticism

The lexicon of international films said that animated films "still offer child-friendly entertainment", but "sacrificed part of the charm of the presentation of the big screen". The characters are "a little more developed" and "the linguistic subtleties that characterize the series" have been "lost".
