Babe Stovall (born October 4, 1907 in Tylertown , Mississippi , † September 21, 1974 in New Orleans , Louisiana ; actually Jewell Stovall ) was an American blues musician (singer / guitarist).

Stovall was born the youngest of 11 children (hence his nickname "Babe"). His style of playing guitar was influenced by Tommy Johnson , whom he met in Mississippi around 1930. He went to New Orleans in the mid-1950s, where he entertained college students, hippies, tourists, artists, and locals on the streets, in cafes, and art galleries of the French Quarter until his death .

Some sources state that Babe Stovall is said to have been the inspiration for the song Mr. Bojangles by Jerry Jeff Walker , who Stovall met in 1968 in New Orleans. However, Jerry Jeff Walker has called this incorrect in his autobiography Gypsy Songman as well as in an interview.
